Artist Statement
Kathleen Vance is an environmental artist who creates sculptures and installations that connect people to local aspects of nature that are overlooked or under-appreciated. Inspired by personal experiences in nature, her works explore concepts of site displacement, water and land rights, access and the preciousness of nature. Her artworks bring attention and awareness of our role in local ecosystems, with a goal to be more conscious of consumption, to consider our environmental impact, and to work towards preserving natural resources. Vance engages directly in and with nature to define and isolate organic elements that are indicative of place, recontextualizing them in her artwork, to give new meaning.
